More Info

As far as joining up, all the K9 team members are expected to join the GSAR (Ground Search and Rescue) team FIRST.    We only recruit once per year and the informational meetings are in October.
When you come to an informational meeting, you will be able to ask lots of questions, and you will be given an overview of what our SAR classes consist of.    There is a nominal fee to hold your spot for the classes, but otherwise they are not expensive.   Your search gear, hiking boots, etc are somewhat of an expense.
When you graduate from SAR 101 (classes are February thru mid April, 2 evenings per week and several Saturdays for field work) you are prepared to respond to SAR missions.
As far as starting a dog, you will be expected to help SAR on regular missions/public events etc (without a dog) for your first year, and at that point you can apply for the K9 team.
After at least 120 hours shadowing the K9 team, the team can vote for you to be able to start a dog or not, depending on your readiness and if your dog is considered a good candidate.
This is quite a time and lifestyle commitment.
We train at various times/days/evenings and locations.
Thank you again for your interest in joining K9 SAR!!   We look forward to meeting you and working with you and your dog!
